Rafael Gomez was born in Mazatlán, Mexico where he grew up watching his VHS of the 1998 film Godzilla on repeat (yes, the one with Matthew Broderick). After moving to the United States he attended film school at the University of Arizona where he skipped class regularly to shoot documentaries in northern Mexico. His point of view is deeply influenced by his country of origin and admiration of filmmakers who have worked in Mexico such as Amat Escalante, Carlos Reygadas, and Michel Franco. Rafael now lives in Los Angeles where he works as a commercial cinematographer, colorist and editor, and often cries at the movies over a large popcorn.
